Nothing like some last-minute visa excitement to get the juices flowing.
Yesterday I had to go and get a new visa. I leave for India tomorrow. Actually quite generous - time-wise, compared to last time, anyway.
The day I am due to come back is the day that my original visa expires - and project logistics manager was understandably edgy about me flying back on the day it runs out. "What if the flight is cancelled?"!
So, I get another 6 month visa. Queue up from 8am ish (ish being a diversion to O'Brien's for a warming drink and a non-calorie controlled muffin and to get out of the driving rain), go inside at 9.30 and wait for my 4 minutes of counter-time to hand over the forms. Then the pleasure of going back again at 4pm and joining another queue to collect the silly thing. Anyway, I have it now and unless something random happens tomorrow, I will be on my way!
Business class... mmm. [The reason for going posh this time is that as I am going for fewer than 2 weeks (that sounds wrong - can I say "less than" please?) I go business class, but I don't get a day off to recover at the company's expense. I will be going into work on Friday afternoon, after arriving at about 11am. Can't wait. Hope the flat beds on the plane are worth the wait.]

You can say "less than a fortnight"
Phew, thank you. I thought the grammar police would turn up at my door.
I think 'fewer than' should only be used when you are thinking in integers. The only 'fewer than' 2 weeks that you could have would be 1 week. Quite clearly, if you are going for 'less than' 2 weeks, you are going for an indeterminate time 'less than' 2 weeks; you are not necessarily going for exactly 1 week.
If you had been talking about days rather than weeks, then you would have to say 'fewer than' 14 days, because you would probably be considering your visit in a whole number of days.
Does that make sense?
